Mardi Gras may be over for another year but Dykes on Bikes are still on Full Throttle.
Saturday 19th March is the annual Bike & Tatto Show at the Hampshire Hotel. This event is open to the entire community and gives us a chance to show off two of our favourite things – motorcycles and tattoed flesh.
The doors open at 12nn and won’t close until the bar staff are too tired to pour any more drinks. We are asking for a gold coin donation (or more if possible) to go towards our chartities – the Gay and Lesbian Counselling Service and Camp Goodtime for children living with HIV.
There are 6 categories and 8 prizes in the motorcycle competition – Best Dressed, Best Naked, Best Cruiser, Best Sports, Best 250cc or under (including scooters) and of course Rat Bike. There is also the People’s Choice award and this year we also have Puppy’s Choice. Bundy actually has an exemption from the NSW Police to ride with her owner, Tex, on the bike so we think she’ll be a perfect judge. Tex and Jenny will be helping Bundy out with the harder decisions. Our other judge is the lovely Terri Dodd from Australia Road Rider and Australian Cruiser & Trike Magazine. All bikes must be in by 12.30pm to be eligible for entry into the competition. Cost for entry is $2 and there are some great prizes to be won.
After the juding of the bikes at around 2pm, the games and entertainment will start. The wet t-shirt competition is always a highlight of the afternoon and the girls have been known to get a little frisky to try and win the title.
When the sun goes down the evening’s entertainment and the Tattoo Competition will get under way. Like the bike comp there are some great prizes to be won. The categories are Best Front, Best Back, Best Leg, Best Arm, Best Story and Best Body Modification. There is also a People’s Choice award. The judges for the Tattoo Comp will be coming from our kindred clubs, Stdney Leather Pride, The Femme Guild and our favourite illustrated man – Geoff Osterling from the Harbour City Bears.
So don’t get a case of the post Mardi Gras Blues. Keep the party going and come along to the 2011 Bike & Tattoo Show.
